Statement by Veteran Pat Ryan on President Trump’s Address on Afghanistan
Kingston, NY — Veteran and Democratic Candidate for Congress Pat Ryan (NY-19) released the following statement on President Trump’s address on Afghanistan.
“Having served two combat tours in Iraq, I’ve been on the receiving end of an order to deploy and there’s nothing I take more seriously. President Trump provided no indication of how many troops he plans to send into harm’s way, nor did he define a strategy or end point. Meanwhile, President Trump is working to gut the State Department, making a long-term diplomatic solution even further out of reach. This open-ended commitment does not constitute a real plan. I urge Representative Faso and Congress to challenge why we are risking American lives and spending taxpayer dollars to fund a war with no clear end in sight.”
Pat Ryan is a native of Kingston, NY and a West Point graduate. He served two combat tours in Iraq, including a tour as the lead intelligence officer for an infantry battalion of 1,000 soldiers and officers responsible for ground operations in Mosul. He left the military with the rank of Captain.
